A few points on the new Twilight movie New Moon that came out last week:
o I’m pretty sure that Taylor Lautner is the new Robert Pattinson. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a solid member of Team Edward, but during a majority of New Moon, I was flirting with the line between that team and Team Jacob. Not only did Edward leave in the beginning of the film, it didn’t help that Jacob was wandering around without a shirt the whole time, and for a good portion of that, he was soaking wet (Forks is one of the rainiest places in the world, remember?). At the end of the movie, however, I do remain unalterably devoted to Edward.
o It was obvious that New Moon had a different producer than Twilight. This film seemed a little more professional, although I did not like the dramatic difference in the vampires’ eyes in this one. Kristen Stewart still doesn’t thrill me as an actress, but fortunately for her, most of the movie-goers who bought New Moon tickets were not really interested in seeing her. Her demeanor is the same throughout the entire movie, and her screaming bits during the nightmares don’t do much more than make me feel really bad for Charlie.
o As much as I love Jacob and Edward, as well the men who play them, I do think the hype over them is a little ridiculous. I also think it’s a little awkward to have older women ogling them. Yes, my mom and my aunts find them attractive, but you certainly wouldn’t see them screaming or giggling in a theatre, because frankly, that’s a little juvenile. I can do that because I’m still a girl. Plus, Taylor Lautner isn’t even 18 yet, so let’s not get too carried away.
o I think New Moon was also better than Twilight in that it was more man-friendly. I saw the first one in a crowded theater with a boy who would have rather held my purse at the mall than watched Twilight; I saw the second one with a boy who was seeing it for the second time and also seemed moderately interested. Because the filming was better, it was easier to watch. Also, there is more action and fighting in the second, which is something a guy could get into.
o For those of you who are so upset that vampires and werewolves are taking over the big screen, I will answer your question about why everybody loves it: it’s not real. We all have fantasies about living different or better or wealthier or happier lives – well this is kinda like one of those fantasies. It’s a fantasy about living a more exciting life. Yes, vampires and werewolves are ridiculous. But being ridiculous is kind of fun. You should be asking the same question to people who play video games. It’s just pretend and there’s nothing wrong with that.
o For those of you who do not understand why girls love Edward, I will answer your question as well: Edward would do anything for Bella, simple as that. He was prepared to lose his soul in order to not have to live without her. It is true that we often say that Edward is the perfect man; it is also true that there are human guys out there who love their woman just as much, so props to y’all! Until your skin glitters in the sunlight though, we will always swoon for the most beautiful Cullen.
o As much as I love vampires, I will admit that in this movie they kinda creeped me out a little bit. Dakota Fanning looked terrible if you ask me, and all of their eyes were pretty weird, and noticeably different than in the prequel.
o All in all, I was very pleased with this second installation to the saga. I was disappointed with the lack of Cullen participation, but the Quileute tribe certainly helped easy that disappointment, if you know what I mean. I will probably see it another couple times before the week is over, and I was pleased to hear that it did so well in the box office. Rumor has it that Eclipse will premiere over the summer, which would make me a very happy camper. If you don’t like anything about Twilight, don’t go see this movie. If you’re a Twilight fan, then you’ll leave the theater with a happy heart.
o I would also like to add that the true Twilight fans are those that read the books first, and not just go for the movies. Also, the books are 100 times better, if you can even imagine that.
o Team Edward forever! You have my heart. And all the wall in my dorm room.
