Favorite Quotes

These are some of my favorite quotes. Many of them come from America’s founding fathers, and it is remarkable how applicable their statements are today. Let me know which ones you like and which ones you love!

Too many people forget this. Yes, we do have religious freedom, but Christianity is the basis of this country. We are nothing without Jesus Christ and his blessings on this nation. Every America is free to worship however they choose, but it does not change the fact that the Bible is our foundation.

"You know why there's a Second Amendment? In case the government fails to follow the first one." Rush Limbaugh
This one is kinda satirical, but the point is very valid. The right to bear arms is exceptionally important to being free.

"Through blood and sacrifice we have been given the precious gift of self-rule and freedom. But because this gift was simply handed to us, we esteem it far too lightly." Glenn Beck's Common Sense
Whatever happened to the idea of fighting for our country to defend our freedoms? That glorious World War 2 generation is long gone, and the idea of war today is in a very negative light. My generation has never to really really fight for this nation, and if we don’t realize the price that must be paid, we’ll lose what we have.

“We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war.” Ann Coulter
Like Limbaugh, Coulter is very extreme in her statements, but the idea is excellent. Mr. Obama is currently more worried about the Afghans than he is about the thousands of soldiers he sent to fight them. War is war; yes, it should be a clean as possible, but there is a price.

GW’s quotes really need no comment. He is so pithy. Props, George.

This is a very relevant topic to America today. Yes, capitalism means there are some with more wealth than others; however, socialism means that the lazy must be supported by the working.

Perhaps we shouldn’t give the federal government all this power… they are in charge of many parts of education, transportation, and they are already on their way to controlling health care. What’s next?

I am personally a proponent of judicial restraint, which means that the Constitution should be taken as literally as possible. Amending it or interpreting it is a very serious matter.

There are some in this country, not to mention Michelle Obama’s name, who do not seem to proud of America. Well then get out. Nothing is making these people stay, and if they are “ashamed” or do not wish to be known as “Americans” they should probably go elsewhere.

I am scared to death that it will be my generation who loses this fight. When I’m a beautiful and wealthy old woman, I do not want to remember the America of my youth and how much I loved her. I want to still be free. But that will require a sacrifice from each of us, as well as the remembrance that we are so very blessed to have what we do.

This is nothing more than Christian terrorism.

Yes, capitalism means there are some with more wealth than others; however, socialism means that the lazy must be supported by the working.--- You have no idea how lazy we appear when compared to how hard the world’s poor work. The farmers here who grow your food work sun up to sun down. Yet we enjoy the fruits of their labor while keeping them in poverty by not paying them enough for their labor. The poor are rarely lazy on a global scale. Get to know some of them and you will see this. I’ll tell you stories about people I’ve met when I’m home.

Can I not be both an American and a daughter, and a sister, and a Christian, and an abolitionist, and a student, etc.? People who place their identity in one thing (a nation, a religion, a cause, a hobby, anything really) tend to become violent. They are extremists. The quotation offers a very dangerous command.

I honestly don’t understand your point here. Are you saying we shouldn’t have war because there are rapists in the world? This quote speaks to the fact that Americans are free because of sacrifices made my heroes.

Like I said, this is a very satirical quote. But look at the American revolutionists. They used methods of war to gain their freedom. We have been extremely fortunate to not be like many other countries whose governments have turned against them; however, if that does happen the American people should be prepared.

“Prepared” is the key word here. Look at Pearl Harbor; the Japanese used surprise tactics to be more effective. If a country is always prepared for defense, they are a little less likely to be attacked. AKA peace.

Again, extreme and satirical. The point is that during war, casualties happen. The troops need to be allowed to fight to protect us and not the enemy.

I understand that you have experience in places around the world, but I’m speaking to America itself. Think of the many here who are on welfare simply because they choose to have no education and no job or occupation.

One of the best ways to lead is to help make independent. Let’s help those who have nothing, not by giving them everything, but by giving them the means to have what they want.

Blood for blood’s sake? Who said that? Mr. Jefferson spoke to blood for peace’s sake. A tyrant’s blood should be spilled to end tyranny, and patriots’ blood must unfortunately be spilled to maintain freedom.

Please don’t take this out of context. There are obviously amendments that must be made as society changes. This is a generalization that the any and all changes should be carefully considered, and amendments should only be made when extremely necessary, as in the case of giving women or Blacks the right to vote.

Again, think of this statement in context. It does not mean that one should deny all other associations and walk around all day saying “I’m an American, I’m an American, I’m an American”. It speaks to unity as a country and the desire to be dedicated to what makes America great.

Absolutely agree with what you stated. Your reason was undoubtedly the simplest to understand.
